Reconciliation - Finding the Balance Between Two Worlds

APRIL 19-22 | FORT MCMURRAY

The theme of our Residency will focus on reconciliation through our show about Finding the Balance Between Two Worlds. We will be working with Trickster Theatre to create an original performance based on this theme.

This project aligns very closely with our school’s aim to grow our collective understanding of Truth and Reconciliation; specifically #63: We call upon the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada to maintain an annual commitment to Aboriginal education issues, including: iii. Building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect. It is our hope that by using drama as a way of exploring and responding to residential schools, as well as other issues Indigenous communities face, we will facilitate new experiences for students as well as teachers – experiences that will bring new understandings of the world and our ability to express ourselves in relation to it and each other.

Prior to the start of the residency each class will choose a specific aspect of reconciliation to look at. These will be chosen from a list of suggestions made by Trickster Theatre. These will be related directly to TRC recommendations and will have been worked out in consultation with Indigenous advisors. Each class will then meet with Indigenous consultants so they can ask questions and learn.
