Science FAQs

In order to have a Trickster artist join your class virtually, you will require access to the following technology:

  • One working device (laptop, computer, chrome book, Ipad, or equivalent) with internet access and adequate webcam capabilities. The device will be used to log into Google Meets so that the Trickster artist can see and interact with the class.
  • A working Smartboard or equivalent hooked up to the device.

If you do not have access to this technology, please contact us directly at [email protected] for us to find a way to bring this program to your classroom in a new and exciting way, or you can check out our other available programs at www.trickstertheatre.com

When you schedule your workshop with Trickster Theatre, we will send you a personalized Google Drive folder for your class which will contain all pertinent information you will need for your workshop(s) including the worksheet for you to print out.

Google slides is an online presentation program offered through G Suite. The artist will share their screen on Google Meets to present the slides. Please make sure all the students can see and hear the presentation.

At this time, we require the Google Meets conference to be projected onto a smartboard or equivalent in order for the whole class to participate. The Trickster Artist will share their screen so the class can see the slideshow.

The online Science workshops were developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since many schools are limiting guests at this time, Trickster Theatre has pivoted to an online platform in order to continue bringing an interactive learning experience through drama, storytelling and creative expression. We will have no physical contact with you or the students although, depending on your school’s comfort level, your Trickster artist may direct students to stand and/or move around the classroom while maintaining physical distance. This can be discussed further in your pre-session meeting with your Trickster artist.

You will schedule a meet-and-greet with your Trickster artist that will take 30 minutes or less via Google Meet which will take place before the workshops. In this session you will troubleshoot any technology issues, ensure your classroom has adequate room for the students to move around, answer any questions you may have and discuss COVID-19 protocol. Students are not needed for this meeting

You can sign up on our website at www.trickstertheatre.com or by contacting us directly at [email protected].

To ensure a good experience for you, your class and the artist, a limit of 35 students are allowed to participate in the workshop at a time. If students from different classrooms are joining (as long as the total does not exceed 35), please ensure that they are all together in one room. If you co-teach with another teacher, please have them book their own workshop by going to our website at www.trickstertheatre.com or emailing us at [email protected].

The online Science course is a pilot program designed to offer an interactive learning experience. Since we are still testing, evaluating and modifying our product we are happy to offer it at a discounted rate in exchange for your feedback.

At this time, we are offering this project only to individual classes on a first come, first served basis as we are still in the piloting phase of this program. We will offer the program until we are at capacity and then booking will no longer be available. We will reopen bookings monthly at which time, all educators are welcome to sign up again! Keep an eye on our newsletters for upcoming availability; you can also sign up for our newsletter here.

Trickster is a Calgary-based company and has offered programming to Alberta schools for the past 40 years. An added advantage to our online science program, is that it can be available outside of Alberta and even internationally! The early hours offered in our availability are to cover educators who are in different time zones.

We want to be able to offer this program to a wide range of learning environments. Since shut downs, protocol and individual needs are constantly changing, we are trying to be as accommodating as possible to meet the needs of each class. At this time, the online science workshops are only possible with the class working together in person. The Trickster artist will beam in virtually.

If you are interested in booking a workshop for online learners, please contact [email protected] or visit our website at www.trickstertheatre.com to find out more about our creative writing and storytelling through drama workshops.

Yes, students will need to have space to move around during this workshop. Please ensure that they can see and hear the artist beaming in on the smartboard and have the desks pushed to the sides or use a library or empty classroom.

Yes, please stay in the room and participate in the workshop with the students. If you are unable to stay, please arrange for a TA or other adult to be there. The artist may need your help with classroom control, repeating student answers/suggestions so they can hear them and facilitating any games and votes during the process. Most importantly, the students will enjoy the process and “buy in” more if they see you participating.
