More Than a Performance—A Process That Transforms Schools

More Than a Performance—A Process That Transforms Schools

If you’re new to Trickster Theatre, our residencies are not just about putting on a show.

They are immersive, week-long experiences where professional artists work directly with students to:

  • Build confidence and collaboration
  • Integrate curriculum through the arts (science, storytelling, social studies, and more)
  • Create an original performance from scratch
  • Ensure every student has a meaningful role—on stage or behind the scenes

By the end of the week, your school community gathers to witness something remarkable: a fully realized production created entirely by your students.

Why These 46 Schools Are Applying to AFA

The AFA Artists and Education grant is a key part of making residencies accessible. Schools can receive significant funding (up to $15,000) to support artist fees, making it possible to bring professional theatre into the classroom at a reduced cost.

That’s why we worked closely with these 46 schools to:

  • Develop strong, curriculum-connected project descriptions
  • Align their residency vision with AFA priorities
  • Prepare all required materials for a successful application

These schools are now in the final stages of submission—and we’re cheering them on.

Missed the Deadline? You’re Not Out of Options

If your school didn’t make the AFA deadline this time, don’t assume you’ve missed your chance.

Every year, we work with schools who:

  • Secure alternative funding sources (district funds, PAC support, community grants)
  • Book residencies outside of the AFA cycle
  • Start planning early for the next intake with a stronger application

And here’s the key: the earlier you start, the better your chances next round.

Why Book Now for 2026–27 (or Even 2027–28)

Our residencies fill quickly—especially with returning schools and AFA-supported projects.
